Service Description

Come explore the art of landscape painting with dry pastels in the workshop "Lakes and Rivers in the Landscape: Water and Reflections," led by the talented French artist Alain Voinot. Over these two days, you will learn to depict reflections, the movement of water, and the subtleties of light, while exploring the richness of pastel on a black background—an expressive and elegant approach that gives the landscape a unique depth. The workshop follows this program: - Day 1: Various studies on rendering water: depth, movement, transparency, reflections, and light. - Day 2: More in-depth work on landscapes. Each participant will create an original artwork. Work on black Canson paper will be based on photographs provided by the instructor, and participants will be asked to bring some of their own photos. The workshop will focus on the theme of landscapes, rivers, and seascapes. ON A BLACK BACKGROUND, THE PROCESS Canson Mi-Tine black paper allows you to begin the composition based on the contrast between shadow, represented by the black of the paper, and light, provided by the pastel. The process, contrary to the logic of watercolor, involves starting from the lightest area and moving to the darkest. The black background represents the overall shadow of the composition. Throughout this process, we will see how to use the blending technique to achieve the desired effects. WORKSHOP STRUCTURE The instructor will guide you through a step-by-step process, and participants will be invited to follow along. Each step will be followed by a break during which the instructor can provide guidance. Studies based on provided photographic references will be offered, as well as more personal projects based on each participant's own photographs. Location: Artiloft, Chemin de la Colline 1c, 1007 Lausanne Dates: July 11 and 12, 2026 Price: CHF 280 (bring your own materials - a list is available upon request by email at info@artiloft.ch) or CHF 300 (with materials provided) Time: 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM (10 hours of workshop in total) Language: French Admission: No prior experience is required; adults and children aged 14 and over are welcome.
