We are happy to invite you for a watercolor workshop with a world renown artist Julia Barminova to learn to depict architectural elements through light and shadows. Julia combines travel and art: exploring countries and cities, choosing subjects for sketches and paintings, and capturing more than details and colors. Her workshops teach you to paint effectively in the studio and in unexpected places: on quaysides, in ports, at café tables and on city streets. On this workshop you will learn: • Different styles and techniques of watercolor sketches during travels, the peculiarities of composition for quick sketches and drawings. • Color theory, and how to choose colors to depict light and shadow. • Creating aerial perspective to give depth to the paper. • Practical techniques for capturing the play of sunlight on architectural elements and achieving impressive details. • Discussions on the specifics of working outdoors. • Using a single wash to create shadows, light, and textures. • Exploring the unique effects achievable with granulating paints. Explore watercolor and travel while developing your ability to paint in different places and conditions. Workshop’s program: 1) Introduction of the materials: paper, brushes and paints; 2) A detailed theoretical explanation of what architecture is and how to depict it; Demonstration about existing watercolor techniques and how to use them for the architecture; 3) Preparation of a pencil drawing of the picture; 4) Working on light, shadows and details. WHEN? - Friday, 4 December 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (with a 30 min coffee break in the middle) VENUE - Artiloft Zurich, Albulastrasse 24, 8048 Zürich (Craft Factory, 4th floor) ADMISSION - The workshop is suitable for beginners and intermediate artists, children with a good level of drawing are welcome from 12 y.o. PRICE - 210 CHF per participant, paints and paper are provided. The participants are required to bring empty palettes, brushes, mechanical 2B-4B pencils, kneaded gum, eraser & a masking tape.
